Simple Fall Centerpiece Ideas

Fall is one of my favorite seasons to decorate because you don't need to completely change your home to make it feel warm and seasonal. A simple centerpiece filled with fall colors, natural textures, pumpkins, candles, or seasonal stems instantly gives a table a cozy fall update.

The best part is that a beautiful fall centerpiece doesn't need to be complicated or expensive. I love starting with pieces I already own, such as bowls, trays, vases, candlesticks, and baskets, then adding a few seasonal elements. These simple fall centerpiece ideas work for dining tables, kitchen islands, coffee tables, entryway consoles, and even Thanksgiving entertaining.

1. Fill a Vase With Fall Stems

One simple fall centerpiece is all it takes to make your kitchen feel warm and ready for the season. I paired a striped orange and white vase with hydrangeas in shades of orange, golden yellow, and white, then styled it on a tray with a candle, a decorative pumpkin, a coffee table book, and a gold leaf dish for an easy designer-inspired look.

If you’re searching for fall home decor ideas, fall centerpiece ideas, kitchen island decor, autumn decorating inspiration, or neutral fall decor, this is one of my favorite ways to decorate for the season. It feels festive without overwhelming the space, and it transitions beautifully from late summer through Thanksgiving.

2. Fill a Dough Bowl With Pumpkins

A wood dough bowl is perfect for creating a long, low centerpiece. Start with several pumpkins in different sizes, then tuck greenery, fall leaves, pinecones, or decorative beads between them.

I especially love mixing cream, muted orange, brown, and soft green pumpkins. The mix of colors keeps the centerpiece seasonal while still feeling soft enough to work with neutral home decor.

3. Create a Simple Candle Centerpiece

Sometimes candles are all you need. Group several taper candles or pillar candles together and vary their heights to create dimension. Wood, brass, black, and glass candleholders all work beautifully for fall.

4. Style a Decorative Tray

A decorative tray is one of my favorite ways to create an easy centerpiece because it keeps everything grouped together. Start with a vase of fall stems, then add a candle, small pumpkin, decorative beads, and one smaller accessory.

This idea works especially well on a coffee table or kitchen island. When you need the surface for entertaining, you simply move the entire tray.

5. DIY Your Own LoveShackFancy Pumpkins

This might be my prettiest pumpkin DIY yet, and it’s so easy to recreate.

Start with a simple foam pumpkin and separate the layers of a floral disposable napkin so you’re left with only the thin printed layer. Cut or tear the floral design into smaller sections, then brush a light layer of Mod Podge onto the pumpkin. Gently place each piece of napkin over the Mod Podge, smoothing it around the curves and overlapping the edges as you work your way around the pumpkin. Brush another thin layer of Mod Podge over the top to seal everything in place, then let it dry completely. The finished pumpkins have that soft, romantic, vintage floral look that feels

LoveShackFancy-inspired, but they’re made with inexpensive supplies and are easy enough to make in an afternoon.

6. Mix Pumpkins With Greenery

Greenery softens traditional fall colors and makes a centerpiece feel more natural. Run faux eucalyptus or other greenery along the center of your dining table, then tuck pumpkins throughout it.

Or create this easy DIY floral pumpkin pedestal. It is an easy way to turn a basic foam pumpkin and pillar candle holder into a pretty fall centerpiece.

Start with a pillar candle holder, a 6-inch Styrofoam circle, and a faux or foam pumpkin. Use a hot glue gun to attach the Styrofoam circle to the top of the pillar holder, then glue the pumpkin securely on top of the Styrofoam. The Styrofoam creates a hidden base between the pumpkin and pedestal that gives you the perfect place to add your florals. Trim faux fall florals and greenery into smaller stems, then insert them directly into the Styrofoam around the entire base of the pumpkin. Continue layering the stems where the pumpkin and pillar holder meet until the Styrofoam is hidden and the arrangement looks full. Mix different flower sizes, greenery, and trailing stems for a softer, more finished look.

Once everything is in place, you have an affordable DIY pumpkin centerpiece that looks perfect on an entryway table, mantel, dining table, or fall tablescape.

Mix it up and add a pillar candle to the top of your pumpkin pair with coffee table books.

7. Create a Neutral Fall Centerpiece

You don't need bright orange to decorate for fall. For a softer look, combine cream accents, beige candles, natural wood, woven textures, and muted greenery or neutral branches.

The different textures keep a neutral arrangement interesting even when you're using a limited color palette. This is also an easy option if your home already has cream, white, black, or natural wood tones.

8. DIY Your Own Pillar Candles

Turn plain pillar candles into custom seasonal decor with a few simple supplies.

Start with basic pillar candles and choose decorations that fit your look, such as faux evergreen sprigs, ribbon, plastic fall leaves, berries, or other lightweight seasonal accents. Arrange your pieces around the outside of the candle first so you know where you want everything to sit. Once you’re happy with the design, use small dots of hot glue to attach each piece directly to the candle, layering the accents as you go.

For a fall look, try overlapping faux leaves around the base or creating a simple leaf pattern up the side. For the holidays, wrap ribbon around the candle and add small evergreen sprigs for a classic Christmas look. Let the glue cool completely, then display your finished candles on candle holders, trays, or as part of a seasonal centerpiece. If you plan to light them, keep all added materials well away from the wick and flame. For designs with decorations higher on the candle, use flameless LED pillar candles instead.

9. Mix Various Candles with Candy or Real Florals

Create an easy seasonal centerpiece by mixing different styles and heights of candles for a layered, collected look. Start with a large tray or decorative base, then arrange a combination of pillar candles, taper candles, and small votives, keeping taller candles toward the back and shorter ones toward the front. Add a small vase filled with seasonal florals or greenery to soften the arrangement, then tuck in a small candy dish filled with festive treats. Finish by adding ribbon around the vase, candle holders, or loosely weaving it through the display for a pop of color and pattern.

You can also add a few small seasonal accents, such as berries, pinecones, ornaments, or mini pumpkins, to fill in any open spaces. Mixing heights, textures, and simple seasonal details makes this an easy centerpiece to change from fall to Christmas with only a few small swaps.

10. Make a Hot Coco Centerpiece

Create a holiday hot cocoa centerpiece that doubles as a festive serving station for family and guests. Start with a large decorative tray to keep everything together, then add clear glass jars in different sizes filled with hot cocoa powder, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, and your favorite cocoa toppings. Place a small bowl of crushed candy canes nearby for an easy peppermint topping, and add a few holiday mugs so everything guests need is within reach.

To give the centerpiece height, place small wooden boxes on the tray and wrap them with festive ribbon, then use them as risers for a few of the jars or mugs. Add a tall vase filled with faux or fresh evergreen branches and red berries toward the back of the tray to create a focal point.

Finish the display with a red and white striped candle and a few small seasonal accents. Keep the taller pieces toward the back and layer the smaller jars, bowls, and mugs toward the front so the hot cocoa toppings stay easy to reach. The finished centerpiece works for a holiday party, Christmas morning, movie night, or any time you want to make serving hot cocoa feel a little more special.

11. Simple No Candle Centerpiece

You don’t need candles to create a warm, layered seasonal centerpiece.

Start with a large tray and arrange fall or winter greenery around the bottom to create a full base. Add a small dish filled with seasonal candy or nuts, then layer in mini trees and other festive accents. Place a tall vase filled with branches, berries, or seasonal stems toward the back to give the arrangement height. Use small wooden boxes or stacked books as risers underneath a few pieces to create different levels and make the display feel more styled.

Finish by weaving ribbon through the greenery or tying small bows onto the vase, boxes, or mini trees. You can also tuck in pinecones, ornaments, bells, small pumpkins, berries, or other seasonal pieces to fill any empty spaces. Keep the tallest pieces toward the back and smaller accents toward the front for an easy centerpiece that works on a dining table, kitchen island, coffee table, or entryway.

12. Shop Your Home First

Before buying new fall decor, look around your house for pieces you already have. A favorite vase, wood bowl, tray, basket, candlesticks, cutting board, or serving bowl might be exactly what you need.

Start with one of those pieces as your foundation, then add a few pumpkins, fall stems, or candles. Using everyday decor alongside seasonal pieces helps your fall decorating feel more connected to the rest of your home.

How to Make a Simple Fall Centerpiece Look Expensive

The secret is to focus on scale, texture, and layers rather than adding more decorations. Start with one larger piece, such as a vase, bowl, tray, or dough bowl. Add one or two medium-sized elements, then use smaller pumpkins, greenery, beads, pinecones, or candles to fill the remaining spaces.

Try repeating the same three or four colors throughout the arrangement. Cream, rust, brown, and muted green are an easy combination for fall. Mixing materials such as wood, ceramic, glass, woven textures, and greenery also makes an affordable arrangement feel more collected.

Easy Fall Decorating You Can Use All Season

One of the reasons I love simple fall centerpieces is how easy they are to change throughout the season. Start with pumpkins, fall branches, and warm colors in September and October. As Thanksgiving gets closer, add more candles, greenery, and entertaining pieces to transition the same arrangement into your Thanksgiving decor.

You don't need a completely new centerpiece for every occasion. Start with pieces you already love, layer in a few seasonal details, and create a warm fall home that feels inviting all season long.
